Community Listening and the Role of the Nonprofit

Community Listening:

A core part of Phase One of Project 107 is community listening. Before any decisions about redevelopment are made, the project is focused on hearing directly from people who live, work, or have long-standing ties to the Glenwood Road corridor. This includes small group conversations, one-on-one discussions, and youth-focused listening sessions. The goal is not to pitch ideas, but to understand concerns, needs, risks, and past experiences that should inform whether the project moves forward at all.

To support this work, Project 107 is in the process of establishing a nonprofit entity dedicated solely to community engagement and public-facing work. The nonprofit’s role is to host listening sessions, coordinate community input, and support participation through stipends or honoraria where appropriate. It will not own land, pursue development, or distribute profits. Its purpose is to create a clear and transparent space for community voices within Phase One and beyond.

The nonprofit exists to keep community engagement distinct from any future development activity. While Project 107 also includes for-profit entities that may be used later if redevelopment proves viable, the nonprofit is focused on trust, clarity, and participation. As Phase One continues, updates will be shared about listening efforts and how community input is shaping what is being studied and considered.
